Ok so I had this idea for a new Mini game that conveniently enough should be able to use the slog from slog pile.

Slog Schooner Land Navy Combat. With slogs ranging from 4″ (Giant Slog) up to 12″ (Frikkin’ Huge Slog). Turn based with status sheets for each schooner.

I am intrigued, do you have a ruleset in mind, or would you like assistance with coming up with rules?

I would like to know more

I am working on something – but I will probably throw it out there and open it for discussion. I am going to try and stay as simple as possible and keep to Savage Worlds as much as possible.

Instead of juggling the rules, I will juggle the values. Damage and Toughness etc will be on a different scale, but will all be on the same scale. Kind of like Rifts does with Damage vs Megadamage – so there MIGHT be a translation (Each point of damage in this game == 10 points in Low Life).

Slog Schooners are divided into Slog and Superstructure. If you take a look at the Slog Schooner rules I put up – The amount of cargo they carry will = the number of points damage a Slog can take. The number of crew will translate directly as will the number of Strukshurs. Strukshurs will be divided into specific entities that will impact game play (Steering house, food bunkers, ammo bunkers, crew quarters, weapon emplacements) and non-essential strukshers.

Roll to hit (TL changes depending on class of target class), If you hit roll d6: 1-2 roll on correct strukshur chart depending on target facing, 3-6 do damage directly to Slog. If your gunner has marksman edge, they can take a -2 mod to choose strukshur or slog.

Strukshurs have Toughness and Wounds. Slog itself is a departure from normal – it has toughness and damage. Effects will be pretty straight forward (Strukshur is hit roll for crew survival there).

Crew will have an impact on game play and you will need to track where they are. You get 1 Kaptin, one set of Primary Gunners (one for each weapon) and a set of secondary gunners (1 for each weapon). Secondary will have worse abilities, Runners and Unskilled Crew.

Runners will move ammo from the ammo bunkers to the weapons and food from the bunkers either to the front of the slog, where it will encourage your slog to speed up, or to the back of the slog where it has a chance of sidetracking pursuing attackers.

    Unskilled crew are unskilled.

Some planning in crew use will have to happen – as it takes a round (or more) to move to a structure and one to move to a destination. There will be some juggling of food and ammo and planning required to make it all work smoothly. You probably won’t be able to keep all your weapons loaded at a time, so choosing what kind and which arc will come into play.

Think a Low Life take on old school Starfleet Battles.

If I can get a preliminary set together – I might try an impromptu game at CoC.

Ok so I had a twisted idea… What if instead of miniatures, this game used Mr Potato Head like attachments (but ship parts) stuck into REAL Twinkys?

I will go with that idea, when you contact Hostess and get them to make the custom size twinkies we are going to need.

“Oh no! you hit the back part of my Slog Schooner!”*Chomp*

Showing damage on a miniature has never been so delicious… just don’t paint them (frosting is ok)

We can play test your game ideas at CotC on the cheap.

    We will need:
    2 boxes of twinkies
1 box straws, the little coffee stirrer ones. (the only inedible part, which means don’t try to eat them)
    1 bag licorice all-sorts (Struktures)
1 box of good & plenty (push them into the sides and they are cannons)
1 bag jelly bellys (Sloggs gotta poop)
    1 box fruit roll-ups (Sails)

A clean surface to play on so we can still eat the miniatures

Not edible, but you can put each slogg schooner on a piece of wax paper, as a barrier between the nummy and the dirty.

HAHAHA. I was thinking more about if you end up playing on the floor (I don’t know why but for some reason I was picturing something like Torpedo run the old game you would play on the ground)

Naw in my mind should be easily table top – in fact I intend to keep current ranges (for simplicity sake) instead of a Dammit Thrower – Its a Mega Dammit thrower. Instead of a range of 15 yorts, it has a range of 15 YORTS which conveniently enough translates to an inch in Twinky scale…

I picture combat being fairly close up. Bunch of Slog maneuvering leading to BAM Broadsides!
